Catholic Regional College North Keilor implements interactive technology in classrooms

North Keillor School

Just 15 mins from Melbourne Airport, Catholic Regional College, North Keilor is located close to the Calder Freeway with an amazing school campus which welcomes all visitors, students and staff members.

In 2019 it is as important as ever to integrate technology into the classroom environment in order to prepare students for future career challenges. This is why Daniel Whimpey, IT Manager for the college, created a plan to upgrade classroom technology commencing in term 1 2019. .

Information is readily available these days and improving student engagement is a big challenge for Twenty first century schools. The right technological tools allow students to interact and engage positively in the learning process.

Upgrading from traditional white boards and projectors to interactive screens was the beginning of this exciting process.

The project was a big one and needed to be executed in under a week to allow Daniel to be ready for the start of term 1.

In total, 40 HDi interactive 75” screens were installed in classrooms and laboratories across the college. Screens on trolleys were also acquired as part of the mobility solution needed in open learning spaces.

The more the teachers use the screens, the more effective they are in communicating to the students

Technology Core via their key reseller provided delivery, installation, training and technical support for its HDi products, which sets the company apart from other technology providers in the market and is the key reason why we were selected for this project.

Daniel chose HDi as the preferred option because of the Australian design and manufacturing element to the products, as well as the fact delivery and installation would be handled directly by the company who owns the brand. This ensured that the new technology was ready for the beginning of the school year, making staff extremely happy.

Daniel’s main focus was to simplify the approach in using technology in the classroom. He chose Vivi as the classroom wireless screen mirroring solution allowing students to share and capture content as well as participate in activities during class from their own device.

HDi screens and Vivi work perfectly together without breaking a sweat, even passing through touch control for the student’s PC devices to the front of class touch screen.

“Vivi is a fantastic classroom tool, the fact that it is integrated onto the screen has been awesome”

When considering touch screen technology, Daniel explained there were many factors why HDi was selected for the project: high performance, the ease of use of the Android interface, compatibility with other technologies, the screen’s slim and modern design and easy access from the front sockets, front facing speakers, coupled with Vivi produced a complete classroom solution for the college.

Having front facing speakers makes a huge difference in the classroom
